Packing List

For the Livestock Show

Packing a family up for an event is usually kind of stressful. Here is a list of what you'll need for the show. Check it early in case you need to order any supplies.

For the lamb:

  • Lamb & halter

  • Feeder

  • Water bucket (the same one you use at home if possible)

  • Water

  • Drench syringe (If your show allows drenching)

  • Feed (enough to last until the animal sells)

  • Shampoo & conditioner

  • Rags/towels

  • Stall Sign and zip ties to hang it

  • Lamb stand and blower (if you have one. If not, buddy up!)

  • Broom and shovel to clean pen and surrounding area. (square nosed shovel is best)

  • Fitting sprays

    • Hide conditioning spray.

    • Sheen spray.

      • Weaver Livestock makes one called Pro Pink. You can buy it online or find it at IFA or Cal Ranch.

  • Slicker brush for leg wool

  • Lamb tube or blanket (It's important to use these immediatly after your lamb is slick sheered to protect from sunburn and flies.)

  • Leg wraps or shag socks (Not necessary, but helpful...especially if your stall has shavings.)

For the Kids:

  • Show clothes (find detailed list here)

  • Clothes to get dirty (what they'll wear to bath and fit their lamb until it's time for show clothes)

  • Hair supplies (brush/comb, spray bottle, hairspray, elastics...for the girls 😀)

  • Thank you note or gift for the buyer (on sale day)

Also Helpful:

  • Camp chairs

  • Cooler with water and food

Tip:

Our favorite way to take feed to the show is in a square, plastic tote. We put the hay in the bottom and take gallon bags and measure out each feeding before we leave home. That way we know we have enough and it's ready to just dump in the feeder. The tote is also helpful so that animals (your own and the neighbor's) can't put their head through a panel and eat your feed.
