Thanking

Jr. Livestock Sale Supporters

There are many things your kids can learn from their Jr. Livestock project. One of them should be gratitude. Help them show gratitude to their sale supporters.

Thank You Notes for Buyers

I have talked to many regular supporters of the Jr. Livestock Auction. Hands down, their favorite thing to receive from kids they support is a hand-written thank you note. Prior to the show, have your kids sit down and write a thank you card. Here are ideas of what they can include in their thank you note:

  • Tell them how long they've been showing.

  • Tell them about their animal (name, etc.)

  • Share something they learned this year with their project animal.

  • Share a funny story (if they have one) from raising their animal.

  • Share a challenge they faced and how they overcame it.

  • Share what their goals were this year or what they'd like to learn next year.

You can buy generic thank you cards, here's some 4-H themed thank you cards, you can also find a lot on Etsy like from this shop. Here's an example of a thank you card I made on Canva with a picture from the show.

In addition to the thank you card, you can also give your buyer a small gift. The thank you card is the minimum... but you can add a gift if you'd like. If you do, keep it simple. Here are a few ideas.

  • Gift card to a local restaurant or store.

  • Small gift basket

  • Something useful (tumbler)

  • If it's a business, something they can display

Tips:

  • While your kid is in the auction ring, watch to see who the bidder is and where they are sitting so that you know where to send your kid with the thank you card after.

  • If you don't catch the buyer at the sale, you can hand deliver it or mail it if you need to.

  • At the Southwest show, you will have both buyers and boosters. Have your buyer thank you at the sale, the booster thank you cards can be sent later. (You will see a list on the show website.)
